Dr. Heidi Banister, MD, co-owner of Arizona Family Care, PLLC, grew up in the Seattle, Washington area. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Microbiology at Washington State University. She spent a few years working in the bio-medical field. She then went on to Pennsylvania State University for medical school and completed her residency at St. Joseph's here in Phoenix, Arizona. She is part of the Physicians Leadership Counsel at Arrowhead Hospital. Her special interests are pediatric/family medicine, preventive medicine for all ages and being an active athlete herself, an interest in sports medicine. In her spare time she likes to play soccer, hike and spend time with her family and pets. She is board certified in family medicine since 2002.
Dr. Bonnie McDonald, DO, co-owner of Arizona Family Care, PLLC, earned her BS in Biology from Grand Canyon University, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1997 followed by her medical degree from Midwestern University, Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2002. She completed her internship and Family Medicine residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and was nominated as Arizona’s Outstanding Second-Year Family Practice Resident during her tenure at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She is a diplomate with the American Board of Family Medicine. She sits on the credentials committee and is the Vice Chair of the Family Practice Department at Arrowhead Hospital. She enjoys all aspects of medicine caring for the young as well as the aging population. She likes to spend time with her husband, son and friends doing activities such as running, fly fishing, hiking and traveling.
Laura Truax, PA-C, MPAS.grew up in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota and moved to Arizona in 1992 to escape blizzards and enjoy some sunshine. She received her Associates degree in nutrition in 2004, graduating from Summa Cum Laude. Laura worked for many years at Banner Thunderbird educating patients in proper nutrition based on their medical conditions. While working at Banner, Laura attended ASU and acquired her Bachelor’s degree where she made the Dean’s List and graduated Cum Laude.
In 2010, Laura earned her Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from A.T. Still University of Health Care Sciences in Mesa. She worked in Internal Medicine specializing in diabetes care and education. Currently, Laura is practicing family medicine and enjoys the continuity of care and getting to know entire families. She manages multiple chronic conditions as well as acute illness and encourages overall wellness with preventative care.
In her off time, Laura enjoys hiking and kayaking with friends in the beautiful sunshine. Laura also appreciates the time she spends with her dogs, cats and talkative African Grey parrot. Laura will soon be a Great Aunt to a baby boy in September 2015.
Emily Brooker, PA-C, is a St. Louis native who moved to the valley first in 2006 and then again in 2012. She couldn’t wait to return to the sunshine. She attended Truman State University in Kirksville, MO graduating magna cum laude with
a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. She worked in critical care nursing for a year before beginning her PA training and graduated in 2006 with honors from St. Louis University Physician Assistant Program with a Master’s Degree in Medicine Science. Her professional
experience includes working in family medicine, endocrinology and pain management. She enjoys all aspects of medicine particularly working in family medicine, developing long lasting relationships with patients and their families. She is excited to be working
in the West Valley, the community in which she also lives
Emily is a wife and mother of two children. She enjoys spending time with her family by the pool, walking nearby trails, watching and playing sports, cooking and trying new healthy recipes.
